Five U.S. Supreme Court justices have ruled that government officials can now demand to see “your papers” whenever they see fit. In an absurd ruling, Larry Hiibel’s ridiculous conviction was upheld.
This further erosion of individual privacy rights has frightening implications for casino patrons. Given the close relationship between most gaming “regulatory” agencies and the casinos they supposedly regulate, can enlisting their awesome police power at the behest of unscrupulous casino managers be far off? Certainly in Nevada, where the Gaming Control Board is effectively just an arm of the casino industry, this newly created police power is sure to be abused.
